Booking It: It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind Of A Funny Story...

Description:

Ambitious New York City teenager Craig Gilner is determined to succeed at life--which means getting into the right high school to get into the right college to get the right job. But once Craig aces his way into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School, the pressure becomes unbearable. He stops eating and sleeping until, one night, he nearly kills himself.

Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. there, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.

My Thoughts:

I liked it, mostly. There were parts of it that sort of confused me and were difficult to get into. I thought some of Craig's thoughts were sort of hard to relate to, while others were easy to. I didn't really understand the point of some things that Vizzini added into the story. And there were a lot of unanswered questions and things that he really didn't talk about in the story at all.

My Rating:

I give It's Kind of a Funny Story 4/5 stars. Even though parts of it were confusing, it was still a great read.
